The way you describe how to install java mods is incorrect. The reason is that if you put the java file into the mod folder, it will only function as a basic mode until another mod is installed in a different part of the ".minecraft." folder. This is what I mean: 1. Cut or copy the jar file, but don't put it in yet. 2. Navigate to the versions folder and create a new folder whatever you would like to call it 3. Copy the jar file to the folder you created 4. Copy the jar file to the folder again however this time with a brand new name. Open the jar file with notepad, copy all of the text and close the file. Copy the file and delete it. Create an entirely new file (most likely it will be a txt-file) and name it exactly as the jar file's name is 8. When you have it you have it exactly written as the Jar file then save the file with the same name as a .json file 9. Open the json file in Notpad and copy the next one 10. Launch the launcher and select the mod you "made 10,5. Minecraft Tekkit Servers If this isn't working If this doesn't work, follow these steps: Open the folder for versions and choose one you don't need (if the mod is using 1.7.10 then you must find a folder that runs the 1.7.10 minecraft version 12. Paste the jar file in the folder you chose and change the name exactly as the json file's name is 13. Start the launcher and choose the version If you're unable to locate the folder then go back to the version folder then look after the last edited folder and change the name to whatever you want. I suggest that you rename the files inside the folder exactly the same way as the folder is named.
